Eco-Wedding at Château de Poudenas

Eco-Wedding at Château de Poudenas

Your Big Day, Your Values!

Eco-Wedding at Château de Poudenas – Your Big Day, Your Values!
🌿 Eco-Wedding at Château de Poudenas: A Genuine and Responsible Celebration

This wedding story goes back a little while, but after the redesign of my website, many blog posts disappeared. I’m republishing it here because the values of sharing and environmental respect are especially close to my heart.

I truly believe that love can be celebrated while honoring the planet. There’s no need to fly in vendors from across the globe! And if you’re into smoke bombs, why not go for it? 😉

What is an Eco-Love Wedding?

An Eco-Friendly Wedding Report in a Charming Venue

This eco-wedding was made possible thanks to a beautiful synergy between local vendors, all sharing the same ethical values and a deep commitment to sustainability.

From the organic flowers to the locally sourced catering, every detail was carefully chosen to reflect a shared respect for the environment and for people.

Choosing a local and ethical collaboration not only reduces the carbon footprint, but also supports a vibrant network of artisans and eco-conscious professionals.

It’s the perfect recipe for a celebration that is both meaningful and responsible.

Shot in 2019, this eco-wedding styled shoot took place during a time when gatherings were still possible just before the pandemic turned everything upside down.

Still, this memory holds a special charm: nature in full bloom, more insects, more birdsongs, and a burst of wild orchids. 🌸 It was a true joy to see and hear! In other words, an enchanted moment in the heart of the Gers, set in a historic venue with a truly authentic soul.

A Local, Ethical, and Committed Collaboration

Back in 2019, the magnificent Château de Poudenas was still lacking visibility. To change that, the owners reached out to Faustine, a friend and colleague specializing in luxury wedding venue marketing, with whom I regularly collaborate to promote the exceptional estates of the de Gascogne collection.

When she first shared the project with me, I immediately felt the importance of highlighting the idea of an eco-wedding in France — a concept that, at the time, was still relatively unfamiliar, particularly for couples planning a destination wedding from abroad.

For me, it was obvious that a wedding could be elegant, joyful and environmentally conscious, while fully embracing the charm, craftsmanship and art de vivre of the French countryside. Sustainability does not mean compromise — it means intention, coherence and meaningful choices.

Together with Faustine and Julie, a former wedding planner, we curated a team of trusted local vendors, carefully selected for their values, expertise and sustainable practices.
From an eco-conscious wedding dress designer and a sustainable event stylist, to eco-responsible furniture rentals, an organic caterer, local artisans and a green florist — each professional brought authenticity, creativity and care to the project.

For international couples, choosing local French vendors is a key element of a destination eco wedding in France. Not only does it significantly reduce travel impact, but it also allows you to work with people who truly understand the region, its rhythms and its traditions, creating a wedding that feels rooted, genuine and effortless.

You’ll find all of our recommended local partners at the end of this article, ideal for couples from the UK, US or abroad who wish to plan a destination wedding in France with purpose and peace of mind.

Ultimately, this styled shoot demonstrates that a refined, ethical destination wedding in France is not only possible, it can be profoundly human, collaborative and meaningful, offering an experience that goes far beyond aesthetics and leaves a lasting emotional imprint.

🌿 A Lasting, Human, and Positive Impact

This wedding shoot had a real and tangible impact.
The images shared helped increase the visibility of Château de Poudenas, as well as the local, values-driven vendors who took part in this beautiful collective project.

On my side, I invested a great deal of time, energy and passion into bringing this vision to life. And even today, I remain deeply proud of having contributed to it, even if, truthfully, not all venues nearby (and society at large) are always aligned with this way of thinking.

We live in a consumer-driven world, where the number of Instagram likes can sometimes seem more important than human connection or environmental responsibility.
Yet I am firmly convinced that a wedding rooted in people, intention and respect for all living things creates a far deeper and more lasting impact than a fleeting trend or a perfectly styled image.

A sustainable wedding story is not built overnight.
It grows from shared values, thoughtful choices, genuine passion and a spirit of collaboration and that, to me, is what truly makes a destination wedding in France meaningful.

💌 What if your wedding truly reflected who you are?

Your Wedding Is So Much More Than Just a Celebration

It is a promise.
A shared dream.
A suspended moment in time, where love becomes the guiding thread behind every choice you make.

The venue you choose, whether it’s Château de Poudenas or a place that feels deeply personal to you becomes far more than a backdrop. It becomes the setting that holds your memories and reflects your values, shaping the way your union is celebrated.

At every step of the journey, you have the opportunity to make conscious, intentional choices, by working with ethical vendors who share your vision: a wedding that is authentic, sustainable, and truly yours.
Together, you create a unique experience, one that feels harmonious, respectful of both nature and people, and rich with meaning.

✨ If this heartfelt approach resonates with you, I would be honoured to accompany you and tell your story through images with sensitivity, natural elegance and kindness.

A gentle note, however: I’m not here to judge.
I, too, travel at times, thoughtfully and with intention, often for personal or purpose-driven projects, or to document weddings in places such as Dordogne or Bergerac, when venues closer to home don’t always align with my values.

Ultimately, what matters most is choosing what feels meaningful to you.
Finding the right vendors, the right place, and your own way of celebrating, one that genuinely reflects who you are.

Our Experience: A Purpose-Driven Styled Shoot

In this spirit, back in 2019, during the early days of the pandemic,  Faustine and Julie, and I imagined an eco-conscious wedding at the Château de Poudenas, guided by ethical and local values.

Together with more than 20 passionate vendors, all committed to a creative and sustainable approach, we brought to life a wedding shoot that truly reflects human-centered and eco-friendly values.

Why Choose Local Vendors?

Optimize Your Wedding Budget

By choosing local wedding vendors, you significantly reduce travel and accommodation costs. As a result, you can allocate more of your budget to what truly matters, meaningful details, guest experience, or lasting memories from your day.

Gain Peace of Mind Throughout the Planning Process

Working with nearby vendors naturally brings more flexibility and responsiveness. You can easily arrange meetings, visit locations, and adjust details as your plans evolve, all while avoiding unnecessary stress, especially when planning a destination wedding in France.

Support the Local Economy and Regional Craftsmanship

Moreover, hiring local artisans, producers and artists allows you to actively support the regional economy. In doing so, you highlight authentic savoir-faire and work with professionals who are deeply connected to their territory and its traditions.

Reduce the Carbon Footprint of Your Wedding

Finally, choosing local vendors is also a strong eco-friendly commitment. Fewer journeys mean a lower carbon footprint, helping you create a more sustainable, responsible wedding that aligns with your values, without sacrificing beauty or elegance.

Vendors Who Truly Care

Do you dream of a wedding that celebrates not only your love, but also your values?
Are you looking to embrace a more sustainable way of living while reducing your impact on the planet?
With this vision in mind, we’ve carefully selected ethical wedding vendors who share the same environmental awareness and human values.

🌿 Every detail matters.
From flowers lovingly grown in local gardens, to hand-painted artistic creations, Made in France products, and materials that are recycled or thoughtfully repurposed for a second life each choice tells a story. These passionate professionals place well-being, kindness and sustainability at the heart of their work.

🌱 Whether it’s for your décor, catering or stationery, you have the freedom to choose partners who prioritise short supply chains, natural materials and eco-friendly practices.
In other words, an eco-conscious wedding in France is the promise of a magical day, one that reflects who you are, while protecting our beautiful planet.

So, does this idea resonate with you?
It might just be the beginning of a wedding that feels meaningful, intentional and deeply aligned with your values ✨

First Appointment at the Local Barber

The day before the big day, I hit the road to join the groom at Sandrine’s Barber Shop in the enchanting setting of Lavardens. Located just 30 minutes from the Château and our home, this place offered an intimate and warm atmosphere, perfect for this pre-wedding moment.

Unique Signage

At Sandrine’s, it’s not just an address — it’s a true experience! With a charming vintage décor, vinyl records spinning, a cozy cup of coffee to warm the heart, and, most importantly… laughter at every visit! 💖 I love Sandrine’s universe, a place where every detail tells a story. The hand-painted signs by Geno, add a poetic and unique touch to this already magical space. A craft that almost disappeared: hand-painted signage!

Château de Poudenas

A Unique Venue in the Heart of the Valleys

The Château de Poudenas i

is a true architectural and historical gem. Overlooking a picturesque fortified village, this remarkable château immediately captivates with its atmosphere, authenticity and timeless charm.

One of its most striking features is its magnificent inner courtyard, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the region. In addition, a panoramic terrace opens onto breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, offering an exceptional setting to fully embrace the beauty of the French landscape.

Beyond its architecture, the château is set within a 10-hectare landscaped park, which also includes its own private church. This unique configuration offers endless possibilities for creating unforgettable events, entirely tailored to your vision.

Whether you are planning a destination wedding in France, a private ceremony or an intimate seminar, the Château de Poudenas perfectly combines prestige, nature and authenticity, making it an exceptional venue for meaningful and memorable celebrations.

Preparation at the Château

Preparation at the Château – A Moment for Two

While the décor was being set up, I felt the desire to create a moment apart.
A quiet, cocooning session for the couple, shared in complete intimacy within this peaceful setting. A precious pause, often overlooked on the wedding day… and yet, one that feels incredibly grounding.

In that moment, I wanted to gently break the routine. To offer them a pause just for themselves, a chance to reconnect, to talk, to breathe together before the buzz begins. Before the glances, the powerful emotions, and the sometimes fast-paced rhythm of the wedding day.
And no, the groom didn’t see the wedding dress before the ceremony 😉

Because on your wedding day, it’s easy to forget to truly come back to one another.
To say the important things. To hold hands in silence. To fully take in what is happening, right there and then.

I cherish this moment just as much as the big “I do’s.”
Because it tells the story of what truly matters: intimacy, connection, and the quiet strength of two people choosing each other.

The Bride

The Bride – A Bride Enhanced, Between Boldness and Delicacy

The bride was beautified with a smoky makeup created by the very rock-inspired Shéron Thaillez (who has since relocated), and her hair was styled in a loose bun by the vibrant Valérie Chouillet (who is no longer practicing). Two talented women, full of creativity, with whom I had the pleasure of collaborating on other equally inspiring projects.

She wore a delicate pearl necklace designed by Leslie Bohn de la Bijouterie Azara, an elegant piece that enhanced her posture with a poetic touch.

Her wedding dress, both light and flowing, was a unique creation by l’Agenaise Elsa Gary. With its spectacular V-back, it was the perfect dress to reveal a subtle back curve or a discreetly placed tattoo.

And to break the rules with refinement, she had chosen to wear flaming red shoes, a touch of character and boldness that contrasted with elegance in this soft yet assertive portrait.

The Groom

The Groom – The Groom’s Preparation in Style

The groom began his preparation in an elegant room at the Château, bathed in natural light. Clean-shaven by Sandrine, the talented barber from Lavardens, he sported a well-groomed and characterful look.

In terms of style, he was dressed with a touch of casual chic thanks to a selection of original pieces from :

Le Duplex fashion boutique in Nérac. Two outfits were chosen:

– the first, dark, in navy blue, for an elegant and classic appearance;
– the second, light, in beige, paired with suspenders, for a more relaxed yet still refined style.

The First Look, The Discovery

The First Look, The Discovery –A Moment Suspended, Just for You

A wedding day can sometimes feel like a race against the clock.
Between the schedule, the guests and the emotions, there is often very little time left for couple portraits and even fewer quiet moments truly shared together… despite the fact that it’s your day.

That’s why, to gently break tradition and create a wedding that genuinely reflects who you are, I often suggest what is known as a “First Look.”
An intimate moment where the couple sees each other for the first time before the ceremony, away from curious eyes and expectations.

Of course, it’s not the traditional approach.
But let’s be honest, you’re no longer living at your parents’ house 😄
So why not choose a way of doing things that feels right for you?

This moment rarely lasts more than ten minutes, and yet it is often one of the most emotionally powerful moments of the day.
A precious pause, a deep and sincere connection, just before the joyful whirlwind of the celebration begins.

In essence, the First Look is not about breaking rules.
It’s about giving yourselves the gift of time, intimacy and authenticity and beginning your wedding day fully present, together.

When it’s possible, and when the couple wishes, I always suggest this special moment.
Not only does it offer a chance to truly reconnect and ground yourselves together, but it also creates a rich variety of images, emotional, spontaneous, and filled with genuine tenderness.

These quiet, unfiltered moments often give rise to the most authentic photographs: images that feel real, intimate, and deeply meaningful, far beyond the posed moments of the day.

The Ceremony

The Ceremony – At the Top of the Hills

In this enchanting setting, everything feels perfectly aligned to host a ceremony outside of time.
Imagine exchanging your vows, surrounded by your loved ones, overlooking a fortified village, in the heart of the Gascon hills. The location, already steeped in history and beauty, becomes even more vibrant thanks to the local floral designs by Amélie of Magic Nature.

Pampas grass, seasonal flowers and natural textures come together in a décor thoughtfully designed to minimise environmental impact, while enhancing the poetry of the moment. 🌾🌸

It is 4 p.m. in Gascony.
The ceremony unfolds at the foot of the Château de Poudenas ramparts, framed by two cypress trees and opening onto views of the village church and the sun-washed countryside beyond. Here, time seems to slow down.

The eye naturally lingers on the details.
The refined furniture curated by Amandine of Cocotte & Coquettes blends seamlessly into the setting, as if it had always belonged here. Emmanuelle chairs, vintage sofas, soft poufs and carefully selected cushions create a true cocoon of comfort, inviting guests to relax and fully embrace the moment.

Alongside this, the raw wooden furniture by Cyril of Wood Stock Réception completes the scene with understated elegance. Tables, benches and buffets add a touch of rustic authenticity, creating a beautiful balance between vintage softness and natural simplicity — all beneath the gentle shade of century-old cedar trees. 🌳

The Trilingual Ceremony and
the Beer Ritual

The Trilingual Ceremony and the Beer Ritual

The trilingual ceremony of this beautifully multicultural wedding is about to begin, delicately orchestrated by the deeply moving Céline Larigaldie.
For forty-five minutes, guests are invited into a moment of pure tenderness and emotion, a ceremony to be experienced like a performance, slowly unfolding.

Gently, we are carried from one language to another, sometimes two, sometimes three, guided by carefully chosen words, meaningful silences, and rituals selected with intention. Each transition adds depth, reflecting the couple’s cultures, stories and shared values.

And then comes a touch of originality that suits them perfectly: a beer ritual to seal their union 🍻
A symbolic, joyful gesture, simple yet deeply meaningful.

One shared intention guided this ceremony: to create a moment that truly represents who they are.
A ceremony filled with authenticity, emotion and purpose. 💞

Confetti: Eco-friendly and Magical!

Throwing biodegradable confetti: a symbolic, sustainable, and affordable gesture!

To mark the end of the ceremony, biodegradable and locally sourced confetti offer a poetic and responsible alternative.
As everyone rises and gently parts, small natural leaves are tossed into the air, replacing the traditional grains of rice, now prohibited, notably due to concerns around food waste and global hunger.

In that soft, joyful movement, the newlyweds step away for a quiet, well-deserved moment of calm. A gentle transition between the ceremony and the rest of the celebration, simple, meaningful and deeply symbolic.

Whether for a humanist or secular ceremony, this wooded, natural setting feels absolutely magical.
And just behind, the chapel discreetly reveals itself, offering an equally beautiful and intimate backdrop for a religious ceremony, should you choose one.

In essence, a small gesture that carries great meaning, respectful of the place, the values you hold, and the living world around you.

Cocktail in the Courtyard

The courtyard at Château de Poudenas is simply perfect for hosting your cocktail reception, wedding reception, or even a dinner under the open sky.
Set within a majestic architectural setting, it allows you to fully savour the moment, surrounded by history, stone walls, and the timeless charm of this exceptional French château.

Everything here invites you to slow down, connect, and celebrate, whether you’re sharing a glass with your guests or enjoying a long summer evening beneath the stars.

The only small consideration?
Perhaps for those choosing high heels
But don’t worry, there are beautifully elegant alternatives, such as block heels or chic flats, offering greater comfort and stability while still keeping you effortlessly stylish.

After all, a wedding is also about feeling good in your body, even if, let’s be honest, high heels will always have a certain irresistible allure 😉👠

And most importantly, you’ll be perfectly comfortable dancing well into the night.

Delicious and Beautiful Products in Abundance

To delight food lovers and true epicureans, Pascal Piques created a buffet perfectly suited to the occasion, showcasing local products in all their richness and authenticity.
A true feast for both the eyes and the palate, where every dish was thoughtfully selected and presented with great care.

Behind the scenes, the wonderful team orchestrated this gourmet moment flawlessly, creating a warm, convivial atmosphere that invited guests to gather, share and savour each bite.
More than just a meal, it was a journey of flavours, celebrating the local terroir while supporting nearby producers and artisans. 🧀🥖🍇

By the Poolside

The Handmade Photobooth

A vintage-style photobooth, thoughtfully designed with a conscious effort to minimise plastic, adds a charming and playful touch to the celebration.
Set against a dark backdrop adorned with delicate golden details, it invites the newlyweds and their loved ones to share genuine laughter and spontaneous moments, even alongside their furry companion.

With studio flashes ready to light up the night and a curated selection of fun props always at hand, this photobooth becomes a lively gathering point, where memories are created naturally and joyfully.

The hand-painted backdrop, crafted by the talented lettering artist Genowefa Pawlak of Atelier K, is a true tribute to artisanal know-how and timeless beauty. A beautiful alternative to mass-produced décor, it ensures precious, plastic-free memories that feel authentic, personal and lasting.

Diner - A Poetic and Elegant Feast

At every glance, a new detail invites admiration.
Delicate lettering, hand-crafted by Atelier K – Genowefa Pawlak, adorns each guest favour, poppy seeds, love-in-a-mist (Nigella damascena) and California poppy seeds adding a touch of poetry and refinement to every gift.

Set within a candlelit dinner atmosphere, timeless and intimate, the table becomes the perfect setting to savour unforgettable moments. Surrounded by thoughtfully curated details, guests are immersed in an ambiance where elegance and emotion naturally intertwine. 🕯🌸

The tableware, candlesticks and vases were carefully sourced by Amandine of Cocotte & Coquette and are available for rental, bringing a distinctive vintage charm to the setting. Complementing this, the handcrafted wooden furniture by Cyril of WoodStock Réception adds a natural and original touch. Each artisanal piece, created with passion, can be rented or purchased, allowing the magic to live on beyond the wedding day.

The natural floral arrangements, designed by Amélie of Magic Nature, respect the environment while offering a raw, organic beauty to the tablescape.
Together, these elements create a perfect harmony between nature and elegance, where every detail contributes to a truly magical atmosphere, blending authenticity, craftsmanship and timeless beauty. 🌿✨

Creating the Ambiance

A Magical World Around Every Corner ✨

This wedding, imagined like a private mini festival, feels truly enchanting, a celebration where every corner reveals a new sense of wonder.
Like a poetic interlude, each space unfolds with a surprise: a carefully considered detail, a subtle intention, a quiet nod to the couple’s story.

Everywhere the eye wanders, there is something to discover, a flower-adorned table, soft and atmospheric lighting, a delicate decorative gesture filled with meaning. Nothing is left to chance, and yet everything feels effortless and alive. 🌿🎶

The atmosphere perfectly reflects their vision, blending bohemian elegance, a joyful festive spirit and gentle poetry.
Here, each element comes together to create an immersive and unforgettable setting, rich in charm, emotion and a touch of magic. ✨

The Evening

Time seems to fly, yet the celebration is only just beginning…
As night gently wraps itself around the château, a new atmosphere emerges more vibrant, more electric. Laughter grows louder, the lights soften, and the energy shifts. Then suddenly, a surprise illuminates the faces of the guests.

Enter Jérémy Canto, the magician of light.
With words, images and poetic light compositions, he transforms the evening into a true sensory and visual experience. The château becomes a stage, and the moment feels suspended, almost surreal.

Far from a traditional fireworks display, this luminous performance offers something far more intimate and emotional. A living work of art, delicate yet powerful, that leaves a lasting impression and turns the night into an unforgettable memory.

From the very moment he steps onto the scene, the artist commands every gaze.
Cold sparks, glowing embers and dancing flames ignite the night, setting the tone for an intense visual and sensory experience. A powerful opening that transforms the atmosphere and marks the beginning of a truly timeless evening.

But shhh… let’s not reveal too much.
What unfolded beneath the stars belongs to those who lived it, a story meant to be felt, not fully told.

My commitment to an ethical wedding

Love can be celebrated in countless ways, and it is absolutely possible to do so in alignment with your values, your desires and your vision.

For your wedding day, I will be your eyes and your heart.
As a photographer and artist, I document each chapter of your story with sensitivity and poetry, focusing on what truly matters to you, the connections, the emotions, the quiet moments, and everything in between.

Since that defining shoot in 2019 (yes, it’s been a while!), I hadn’t had the opportunity to photograph another wedding at Château de Poudenas. It was only this year, in 2025, that I was added to their list of recommended photographers and for that, I am deeply grateful.

Because every gesture matters.
Every choice.
Every collaboration.

Neither I — nor this beautiful planet — are eternal.
So why not choose meaning? Why not create something thoughtful, conscious and lasting, for yourselves, and for the generations to come?

📩 Your wedding. Your values. Your timeless memories.
