Winter Wedding in the Gers

A Simple and Beautiful wedding

Mexican Bride, French Groom, and a Backpacking Love Story

Getting married on a small budget doesn’t mean compromising on beauty, meaning, or emotion. Rachel and Steeve proved just that with their intimate winter wedding in Eauze, in the heart of the Gers, France.

On December 30th, under a soft winter sun, Rachel, a vibrant bride from Mexico, and Steeve, a French adventurer, said yes in front of their closest family and friends. The day was unexpectedly warm and bright – a real gift for a winter wedding.

The bride arrived fashionably late – 30 minutes, to be exact – a charming nod to cultural differences and perhaps a little tradition from Mexico. This delay only heightened the emotion of the groom, waiting patiently to see his beautiful Mexican princess walk toward him.

The humanist ceremony took place around 4:30 PM and was beautifully officiated by the groom’s father – a personal touch that made the moment even more intimate and special. After joyful group photos, we rushed to catch the last golden light of the day for a brief but heartfelt couple session.

At the lake of Eauze, the sun had just dipped behind the horizon, casting a magical winter glow. Rachel and Steeve, passionate backpackers, made sure to include their well-worn travel backpacks in a few photos – a lovely way to honor their lifestyle and love story.

The evening continued at the Castelnau-d’Auzan village hall, a simple and affordable venue that perfectly suited their laid-back celebration. The decor was minimal, the atmosphere warm and welcoming – a celebration of love rather than luxury.

Tips for Planning a Budget-Friendly Wedding in France

  • 💡 Choose the off-season: Winter weddings (especially in late December) are often more affordable. Photographers, venues, and caterers have better availability and may offer lower rates.

  • 💡 Opt for local village halls: They can be charming, flexible, and budget-friendly alternatives to traditional venues.

  • 💡 Personal touches matter more than perfection: A father officiating, cultural traditions, and meaningful accessories (like backpacks!) bring personality without cost.

  • 💡 Keep it small: An intimate wedding allows you to focus on what truly matters – your love and your guests – without overspending.

This wedding reminded me that simplicity can be deeply moving. Rachel and Steeve didn’t follow trends – they followed their hearts, their values, and their story. And in doing so, they created a day that was truly unforgettable.

If you’re dreaming of a budget-friendly wedding in France, let their day inspire you: heartfelt, authentic, and beautifully simple.
